政治と経済の場である城下町、林業によって薪炭などのエネルギー資源や建築資材を供給していた山間部、そして田畑が広がる谷間の平野部。現在鹿野町となっている地域はかつて三つの性質を持つ地域に別れ、それぞれが関わり合いながら一つの生活経済圏が成立していました。しかし、交通網や産業化の発達により、地域をバランス良く成立させていた小さな生活経済圏はより大きな経済圏に吸収され、人々の生活様式も変化し、地域には衰退の兆しが現れ始めます。鹿野町という地域がどのように発展し、どのように衰退していったのか。かつて牛と共に暮らしていた人々の生活がどのように変わり、牛はどこへ行ったのか。
グローバル化や工業化が進み、時代と共に変化していった地域の在り様や人々の暮らしを掘り下げていきながら制作した映像作品です。

この作品はコロナ禍の中、鹿野芸術祭2022のために三年かけてリモートによるインタビューなどを駆使しながらリサーチと制作を行いました。
会場となった「しかの心」の一階には映像と牛の藁人形を展示し、二階には制作の参考にした資料やインタビュー音声、スケッチなどを展示。また、映像は道の駅西いなば気楽里と里山ベースの二ヶ所でも放映しました。

This is the video installation for Shikano Art Festival 2022.
The area now known as Shikano was once made up of three distinct yet interconnected zones that formed a unified social and economic sphere. The castle town functioned as the political and commercial center; the surrounding mountains provided essential resources such as firewood, charcoal, and timber; and the valley plain was home to expansive rice fields. However, with the rise of industrialization and the development of modern transportation networks, this small-scale, self-sustaining economy was gradually absorbed into a larger, external one. As lifestyles changed, signs of regional decline began to emerge.
How did Shikano grow, and how did it begin to fade? How did the lives of those who once lived alongside cattle evolve—and where have the cows gone?

This video work explores the transformation of the region under the influence of globalization and industrialization, focusing on the changing lives of its inhabitants.
Created over three years during the behavioral restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the piece is based on extensive research and remote interviews with residents of Shikano Town, Tottori Prefecture, as well as a field study conducted during a short stay in the area.
The work was exhibited at the Shikano Art Festival 2022, along with straw cow figures used in the film and other materials gathered through the research process.
